Having a Baby

I am tired. I think this is the most rewarding and most exausting thing I've ever done. Learning how to be a mom doesn't happen overnight apparantly. We are well into Andrew's third week of life and feel like things are starting to fall into place. Our first week was shockingly easy. Andrew slept when he was supposed to and ate when he was supposed to. Our second week was a little more difficult. Andrew forgot how to nurse, got his days and nights mixed up, and Rusty went back to work! I cried every day of that second week and spent a lot of time on the phone with lactation consulatants and friends with children. Andrew's week now is back to semi-normal. We're getting the days and nights straight (I think), and he seems to have remembered again what he's supposed to do for nursing. I do feel like all I do is feed this kiddo. It is the coolest thing though that God made me capable of providing for my son. How anyone could experience pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood without beleiving in an all powerful, intentional, creator God, is beyond me. Everything has a purpose. This kid lived inside me, in water, and now he's here, in air!! How cool is that?!? My God is good. After years of trying for this baby, he's here. Andrew is beautiful and growing quickly. He's going to be a toddler before I know what hit me.

Grandma's First days

Mom is here!! She can't stop squeezing my boy. The first picture was her getting to hold him for the first time at the airport. She agrees with my dad that we should keep him.

Chef Rusty

This was Rusty's other birthday present. Him and my dad went shopping for this grill while Dad was visiting. The boys grilled up hamburgers for us... it was wonderful!! How nice to have a husband who will cook for you. He didn't even burn the house down.

Grandpa's visit

My dad got to come for the first visit!! We had a great time. Most of our time was spent trading off nap times, but lots of snuggles were had. Dad helped us figure out what in the world to do with a newborn. Rusty and I are still trying to figure out this whole parenting thing. Here are some pictures of Dad and Andrew. I promise Dad didn't sleep the whole time... just whenever he could. Mom gets here today so I'll post with her pictures soon. How cute is my boy?

Random photos

You can imagine whose idea this was... but he is pretty cute. The mit was rusty's birthday present, Andrew was both of our birthday presents. Rusty's birthday is April 1st, Andrew's is April 12th, and mine is April 17th. Busy month for the Tounget Family.

Here's Andrew meeting Grandpa for the first time at the airport. I think they like each other pretty well. Dad says he'll keep him, no throwing this one back. We've all pretty much decided that we've got the most laid back baby possible.

I just don't want to stop looking at him. I know they don't stay little for very long. I can't believe how much I love this little thing.

Man Sling!

This sling was a gift from my mother, and it is amazing! One of the best things about it is that Rusty will use it. A couple days ago Rusty loaded Andrew into it and let me take a nap while he walked up to the seminary bookstore. How cute are my boys?

Here are some highly requested pictures of our first days with Andrew. I will post later with more details about labor and what we've been up to. I know you guys only really care about getting to see him though...

It's a boy!

He's here! After less than two hours of labor, Andrew Earnest Tounget was born Saturday morning, April 12, at 5:21am. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 3 oz. and is 21 inches long. Everyone is healthy and happy, although mom and dad haven't gotten much sleep yet. We hope you all enjoy these pictures!

Week 38 Appointment

I am now 2 cm dialated!! YAY! Bad news, my blood pressure is high so now I'm on preeclampsia watch. I get to have blood drawn today and monday. I get to collect all of my pee for 24 hours before my monday appointment (GROSS!). I have to watch for all these symptoms that I've had the whole time (headaches, nausea, lightheadedness). So yeah... no idea what to do. I guess we'll just see what happens. Fortunately this is all happening after reaching full term, I just really really really don't want a c-section. Pray for me.

Doctor's Appointment

I had my 37 week appointment today and found out that I am 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated! YAY! I know that it doesn't really mean anything... I could still go all the way to 41 weeks, but it's a move in the right direction. Anyone have any secrets about how to induce labor??
